During a press conference held in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in Berlin on 2nd June 2003, the Federal Agency for Radiation Protection presented its certification process for tanning centres. The requirements for the certification and the questions concerning the process were discussed and specified at the Solarium Round Table (RTS), which was chaired by the management of the BfS. The prerequisite for awarding tanning centres certificates is that they meet the requirements laid down in the criteria catalogue in the following areas:
- tanning device standards
- the tanning process (particularly the hygiene requirements)
- professional qualifications of customer service personnel at the tanning centre
- information and consultation for customers.
The Academy of Tanning (AfB) is accredited by the BfS as a training facility. Training given by the AfB is recognised for the certification. The contents of the seminars offered thus meet the requirements for obtaining the professional qualification according to the criteria of the RTS certification process for tanning centres in accordance with the BfS.
During SOLARIA 2007 Qualification & quality seminars were held .
